From Studio to Site with Joanna Lynch

From Studio to Site is a series that takes a closer look at artworks chosen for client projects - beginning in the artist’s studio for an intimate look at their creative process, before exploring how the pieces come to life in their final setting.

For this feature, we spend a day in the Deptford studio of local artist Joanna Lynch, commissioned to create her largest painting to date for Chapter London Bridge.

A graduate of Central Saint Martins, UAL, Joanna creates bold abstract works through layers of paint and carbon - raw, tactile reflections on emotion and the evolving human experience. Working directly on the floor of her studio, she moves instinctively between canvases, using sweeping gestures and thick strokes of paint and graphite to build dynamic, emotionally charged surfaces.

On the 37th floor of Chapter London Bridge, two of Joanna’s paintings now bring the study space to life. Their rich textures and fluid movement add depth and warmth, while the soothing colour palette introduces a sense of calm and balance to the environment.

Joanna reflects on the challenge and exhilaration of creating her largest painting yet, describing it as a turning point in her practice and something she’s eager to explore further. Her work reminds us how art can both energise and restore, offering space for reflection and emotional connection in the places we live and work.
