A vibrant commission to mark the relaunch of this iconic London rooftop destination.
To celebrate the re-launch of The Roof Gardens, The Art Office was appointed to commission a bespoke artwork inspired by the club’s unique setting. We collaborated with Norfolk-based artist Alec Cumming, whose vibrant abstract paintings explore form, colour, and fleeting moments.

Having worked and lived internationally, including extended periods in India, California, and Sri Lanka, Alec’s paintings pulse with a global sensibility and a fascination with the transient, joyful moments of life. Alec visited the gardens multiple times, immersing himself in the atmosphere - observing the layout, flora, and architecture, as well as studying the rooftop from above to capture its distinctive shapes, patterns, and energy.
Drawing on these experiences, Alec created a new work in his signature abstracted painting style. His compositions often play with semi-recognisable forms that hint at narratives - spaces, fabrics, streetscapes, and snapshots of everyday life. These shapes emerge from his reflections, sketches and encounters, evoking familiar yet dreamlike scenes: the view between buildings, a poolside moment, or a table scattered with objects and conversation.
Alec brings a playful and dynamic approach to a traditional medium.
The resulting painting captures the spirit of The Roof Gardens - a place where nature, architecture, and energy intertwine. With its rich colour palette and abstracted forms, Alec’s work embodies the club’s dynamic character and sense of renewal.
